Authors Note: I decided to write my essay on the final book of The Hunger Games trilogy, "Mockingjay." I wrote about how I believe that there are many possibilities in the world, and how they relate to this book. It's a very violent book, but is a great ending to the fantastic trilogy.

All I can hear are people screaming in terror as the bombs pummel towards my district. I can’t do anything so I just stop and listen. Listen for when the bombs stop. Listen for when everything is normal. Listen for everyone to say that it’s okay. But I know that will never happen. And this was all because of me. Katniss Everdeen, victor of The Hunger Games, has made some terrible mistakes. She lives through them and everything turns out okay – but not for Katniss. “Mockingjay”, written by Suzanne Collins, is an authentic book that has many futuristic settings.

In the country of Panem, everything is supposed to be very organized. The Hunger Games is held every year, to show how much power the Capitol has. Two years ago, Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen were the district 12 tributes. They rebelled against the Capitol and now, a war has begun. The Capitol wants Katniss dead, and everyone she loves – including Peeta. In order to make the pain even more severe, President Snow tortures Peeta. Torture is the one word no one in the forgotten District of 13 wants to hear - and neither does Katniss. But Katniss is a strong soldier, and she will fight until the end. You should always stay strong and protect the ones you care about.

Protecting your loved ones is very important, but you should care about the outcome of our future as well. Panem is the country that holds all 13 districts. Each district is known for their unique industry, just like the world today. Certain countries and states are known for their businesses or industries as well. The setting of each district doesn’t seem very realistic compared to the present, but it could potentially be our future. Today, we are fighting to keep our freedom, safety, and to keep things as normal as possible. But if we keep on repeating wars, a new government could take over the world and control each and every individual. It doesn’t seem like it is possible, but anything can happen in this universe.

“Mockingjay” sends warnings about our future, but it is also very irrefutable. Even though it is a fiction story, it is all based on what could happen. There are many possibilities, such as a peaceful planet, or a chaotic universe that has never-ending wars. In this novel, Suzanne Collins decides to base the story on a rampageous world, where the Capitol tries to prevent rebellions. When the citizens of Panem get sick of the way they are forced to live, they rebel against the capitol and start a repetition of the Dark Days. Katniss is the beginning of the rebellion, and she is mostly known as the Mockingjay. This rebellion all started because people were standing up for what they believe in, and what they believe is right. The characters are very realistic because they know who they are and what they were meant to do. They don’t pretend that everything is okay, because they know that it won’t help anything.

An authentic book that has many futuristic settings and is written by Suzanne Collins is “Mockingjay.” This book is very realistic and could potentially come true – even though no one believes it could. Always think about every possibility, but never eliminate the impossible.
